This museum is
the home of
Brownsville
founder Charles Stillman. It was built in 1850 and is both a
recorded Texas Historical Landmark and listed on the
National Register of Historic Places. It is the only
historic house museum in the
Rio Grande Valley
still standing on its original location.
The furnishings in the home are typical of the late 1800s
and several treasures reside in the
Stillman House
Museum.
The
Children's Heritage and Cultural Learning Center
The center
is located in the newly refurbished Stillman House Carriage
Apartment. The refurbishment was funded in part through the
Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation. The space
provides small children's library, small rotating
exhibitions, and hands-on artifacts to stimulate learning, a
dress-up station, and small children's exhibition space. The
Children's Center is also the location for many of the
workshops provided to the community. It also provides an
ideal location for our youth summer camps.
