Colonial Silver of Mexico: 16th to 19th Century exhibition
at Brownsville Heritage Complex |
The Brownsville Heritage Complex, located in historic downtown Brownsville, invites the public to view Colonial Silver of Mexico: 16th to 19th Century, an exhibition from the private Backal Collection. This impressive collection of silver has been part of major international exhibits such as Mexico: Splendors of Thirty Centuries held in the United States at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The San Antonio Museum of Art, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1991.
The opening of the exhibition is scheduled for Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 6 p.m. and is free to the public. This is an exciting opportunity for Brownsville residents to view important silver work that has been on display at major museums. The objects in the exhibit represent the economic history of Mexico, as well as its silver-working capabilities.
The pieces in the exhibit include crowns, plates, candlesticks, chalices, and other objects representing the wealth of Colonial Mexico.
The exhibit will be on view through August 30, 2008 and is included with the cost of $2 general admission to the Brownsville Heritage Museum. Admission is free for BHA members. Click here to view / print promotional flyer.
