The Brownsville-21 Project is a multifaceted project that includes walking tours, photomurals, and information kiosks that serve to preserve the colorful history of the City of Brownsville. The Brownsville-21 project was made possible by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Preserve America, the City of Brownsville and the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation.

To provide the best experience possible, visitors have a variety of tour options to chose from. The walking tours can be taken on their own or visitors can chose from various multimedia options to supplement their experiences.

MP3 Guided Tours

Featuring five tour options, visitors can rent MP3 players to learn more about our downtown historic districts. These can be rented at the front desk of the Heritage Museum or the Old City Cemetery Center.   Available tours are:

                            Stillman House Museum
                                    $2.00 with admission to the museum

                            Courthouse Tour
                                    $5.00 for non-members and $3.00 for BHA members

                            Downtown Brownsville
                                    $5.00 for non-members and $3.00 for BHA members

                            Fort Brown Tour
                                    $5.00 for non-members and $3.00 for BHA members

                            Old City Cemetery Tour
                                    $5.00 for non-members and $3.00 for BHA members
                                    *This tour is not in conjunction with the plaques currently installed

Brownsville-21: Discovering Brownsville's Historic Places Driving Tour CD

The driving tour CD includes descriptions of several sites of interest found on the six walking tours of the Brownsville-21 project. The tours are available in English and in Spanish and are for sale in La Tienda Gift Shop, found inside the Brownsville Heritage Museum.

Children's Walking Tour CD

These walking tours guide children on four of the six walking tours of the Brownsville-21 project. The four tours covered are Downtown and Market Square, County Courthouses, City Cemetery and Train Depot, and the Alonso Building and Sacred Heart Church tour. These tours are perfect for school and communtiy group tours. These CDs are available in English and in Spanish and can be purchased at La Tienda Gift Shop, found inside the Brownsville Heritage Museum.
